Match Summary
The Tasmania JackJumpers have made it two from two on the road for round 17 defeating the Brisbane Bullets 84-82 at Nissan Arena.
After a huge win in Perth two nights earlier and a long flight to Brisbane, there were some questions as to how well they could back up against the Bullets. I was excited to see how this would play out first hand, attending my first JJ’s game in person for the season.
I wasn’t disappointing, as the JackJumpers, led by Josh Magette and Jack McVeigh were in control of the game after taking the lead midway through the first quarter. They fought off everything the bullets threw at them, and led by as much as 14 midway through the final quarter before the Bullets mounted a late comeback.

The comeback was the second of the round for the bullets, who on the back of Anothy Drimics outside shooting two stunned the NZ the Breakers to steal a win. This time around the Bullets sensed their opportunity as the JackJumpers were slowly running out of gas in the final stages. They mounted a 22-10 run in the final five minutes, fueled by fast break offence that the JackJumpers struggled to contain.
Drimic once again was hot late, scoring 11 points in the final quarter, including a three in the final seconds to make it a one possession game. He was assisted by Lamar Patterson, who had 9 of his 16 points in the final term.
The JackJumpers hung on thanks to great clock management by Magette, slowing the game down and forcing the Bullets to send them to the line. Despite a few late misses from the, Clint Steindl and Magette helped the visitors hang on for a two point win.
Reflecting on this historic road trip, JackJumpers coach Scott spoke about his teams effort across the round
“It’s been a heck of a weekend for this crew. To go on the road and win two games and it wasn’t pretty, it was just gritty. There are some things to tidy up but they were just two, outstanding gritty wins,” Roth said.
“One thing I’d like to say, these players have been tremendous. They bought in from day one and the group has been special so far and we have a lot more hard work ahead of us.
Key takeaways from the game
JJ’s go 11 deep
Despite being suited up Jarred Weeks did not play any part of the game, following his head injury against Perth. Roth played the other remaining 11 players, including 8 minutes each for development players Jock Perry and Sean MacDonald at key times of the game.

McIntosh with the small things
Although he scored 12 points, it MiKyle’s effort on the defensive end that really helped the team. His held the dangerous Lamar Patterson to 8 points in across the first 3 quarters, and had four steals through the game. He also once again played big, setting solid screens, rebounding, and was a constant target in the post.
