Round 10 of NBL1 South featured the Dandenong Rangers venturing South to take on Tasmania’s best in NBL1.
For the first time in 2022 it was a clean sweep for the local teams, as the Hobart Chargers women won their first game for the season.
Other highlights included:
- New import Jamar Sandifer debuting for the Hobart Chargers men
- Marianna Tolo debuting for the Tornadoes as teammate Keely Froling notched an impressive 25 point, 20 rebound, 5 assist, 5 steals in their win
- His shot was a little rusty but Matt keyon was able to contribute across the stat sheet in his debut for the JackJumpers.
Women
Hobart Chargers v Dandenong Rangers
A big relief for the girls after a tough season, finally notching up their first win of the season as they defeated Dandenong 77-64. Angela Tompkins led the Chargers with 27 points at 70% from the field while grabbing 9 rebounds. While point guard Paige Bradly once again controlled the tempo and organised the team with another strong all-around performance with 14 points, 5 rebounds 6 assists 4 steals.
Taking a comfortable 59-44 lead going into the final quarter, coach Dwain Davie was able to get all 12 players minutes down the stretch as the team celebrated their first win of the season.

Launceston Tornadoes v Dandenong Rangers
Despite Kelsey Griffen being unavailable for this game, the Tornadoes had a pretty handy replacement in former Opal Marianna Tolo stepping in for her first game with the Tornadoes.
Her mid-season signing with Launceston ahaead of the forthcoming WNBL season. She comes in great form after her winning a title in France with Basket Landes. She wasted no time in her debut scoring 18 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists as Launceston cruised to a 91-65 victory.
The win was set up by an impressive 32-8 opening quarter, and they kept the lead in double figures for the remainder of the match.
Froling was dominant for the Tornaodes at both ends of the court, finishing with a 25 point, 20 rebound, 5 assist, 5 steals. Dandenong had no answers for Froling and Tolo inside, as they outscored the visitors 48-16 inside the paint.
Men
Hobart Chargers v Dandenong Rangers
The Hobart Chargers continued their mid-season revival as they made it 6 in a row with a win over Dandenong. After a tight first half, it was a dominant 60-37 second half that secured the victory.
With Sam McDaniel on Boomers Duty and Jarred Bairstow unavailable, new import Jamar Sandifer was a timely addition to the team. Sandifer impressed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals on debut, but was third in line to the twin towers of Ole Angestein and Harry Froling who combined for 53 points.
The win keeps the Chargers in second place on the NBL1 South Ladder, but are now tied with Mt Gambier on 10-3 after they lost on the weekend.
NW Tasmania Thunder v Dandenong Rangers.
The Thunder came into the game having won only 1 of its last 6 games and badly needing a win to stay in touch of a finals place. Back on their home court and the debut of JackJumper Matt Kenyon was enough to see the Thunder easily overcome Dandenong 92-67 in Ulverstone.
It was the JackJumper connection that played a big part in the win with Fabian Krslovic (22 points, 15 rebounds), Sean Macdonald (17 points)and Kenyon (8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists) . While they also had strong contributions from Ben Woolley (22 points, 6/8 from three) and Joel Beveridge (12 points, 4/4 from three) who both showed off their sharpshooting from outside. It was a hot shooting night across the Thunder team, who shot an impressive 51% from downtown (19/37).
The win moves them up to 13th position on the NBL1 South ladder (6-7), but just two wins outside of the top 8.
