Clint Steindl returns to the nest for two more years

The Tasmania JackJumpers will be welcoming back their inaugural captain Clint Steindl for two more years, after the forward re-signed on with the club through to the 2024/25 season.

“It was kind of a no-brainer to be able to come back and keep building this club,” Clint Steindl said.

“Another two years after this one is super exciting for myself and my family, the community down here and the JackJumpers family has provided an experience for my family that we’re extremely grateful for, we’ve absolutely loved it.”

Steindl is regarded as one the NBL’s most lethal three-point shooters, and averaged 9.3 points, 2.5 rebounds off the bench for the JackJumpers in their debut season.

However, he is yet to play in the 2022/23 season after sustaining a leg injury while playing for the Australian Boomers in the NBL off season. But having fully recovered and given the all clear from medical staff, he’ll make his season debut this Friday against the New Zealand Breakers in Launceston.

“Im ready to go mentally, physically this past week has been great moving freely ,feel strong, feel confident, hopefully I can get out there and just trust the work I’ve been able to put in, that the medical team has been able to put into me, and get out there and do what I do,” Steindl said.

The 33-year-old guard is in his ninth NBL season. After stints in Cairns, Townsville and Perth, he was lured to the Tasmania by his former assistant coaches at the Perth Wildcats, Scott Roth and Jacob Chance.  They both knew Steindl’s abilities on the floor, but also saw his potential as a leader, mentor for the new JackJumpers franchise.

“Stoked for Clint and his family, anytime you can have certainty in our industry is always nice. So for him to have that locked away is really great, it’s great for our club and he’s done a great job of setting a standard for our club”, Jacob Chance said.

Building for the future

Steindl is the latest JackJumper to extend his stay in Tasmania, following Jack McVeigh’s recent two-year extension with the club.

That means both players will remain under the guidance of coach Scott Roth, who was a key signing for the club in the off-season. After guiding the JackJumpers to a grand final appearance, Roth was rumored to have turned away several overseas offers to remain with the JackJumpers until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Roth, McVeigh and Steindl have been key to building the culture of the JackJumpers franchise and raising the teams profile in Tasmania. Having all three on board for a further two seasons is a huge win for the club going forward, and provides them a great foundation to build in coming seasons.
